For what it's worth, I've heard mixed things about the job market in Japan for English teachers, but anecdotally I've also heard that English-teaching jobs in Korea seem to be holding up. One of my friends went from applying to teaching in Seoul in about three weeks flat, so I wouldn't count yourself out for that reason.
