So far this year the following has happened:

1. River has lost her ever loving mind. Which means that it's true you should watch who you name your pets after. This dog is too smart for us. I guess I'm the Simon to her River because I left and she flipped out.

2. I have returned to Texas. As it turns out there is a nice part of Texas it is called The Woodlands, and it's where my parents moved. I got to see the new house they will be closing on soon. It's wonderful with a pool. Texas just became an interesting place to visit.

3. Orbitz will no longer be getting my business. I have the e-mail they sent me about my ticket information It very clearly shows a departure time from Houston of 5:40 PM. However, when they finally found my reservation at the airport, it turns out my flight left at 3:40 PM. FAIL. When I called Orbitz customer service line later they just said "That's too bad. At this time this is an issue you'll need to take up with the airline to get on another flight." and as to why I was not alerted to a change in my flight status "your spam filter probably blocked it"

4. On the other hand Continental and United will continue to get my business. The woman at the Continental line upon finding my reservation and wondering why I thought my flight was at 5:40, was wonderful. She searched for all flights going to Fresno. She could get me to all the airports that do fly to Fresno, but not actually Fresno. So I got to spend another night with my parents and Haley. She got me to Fresno today, and the people at both airlines were really helpful.

5. I have been assaulted by a baby. I had to sit next to a woman and her very small child on the plane. Very small child instead of bursting into tears at the sight of me, decided he had to hit me. All throughout the flight. With respect to the Mom she did try and stop him as much as possible. But random baby hand to the face was not fun. Nor was it fun when he chucked his bottle at me a few times. I will not be having children.

6. Statistics. I've got four more weeks left. October 29, 2011 is when I finish my degree. Can you tell I'm excited?

7. I briefly glanced over my friends page and it seems like there's some goal to read 50 books in 2011? I'm at three so I might have to go and sign up. It also looks like we're all reading the same books-The Hunger Games. I'm on book three right now. I read the first two in Texas and bought the third at LAX. Must know what happens.

So far, I'm 4 days into 2011 and it's been a very interesting year. I like interesting, but I'd like it to calm down some.

This week has been a good one, for I have been gifted with lots of wonderful things. Okay, most of these wonderful things are horse related things, and the stuff that happened today was not so good, but still read below.

RACHEL ALEXANDRA is Horse Of The Year. A GIRL HORSE. Take that all you stupid male horse fans. This year was dominated by the filly Rachel Alexandra and the mare Zenyatta. I actually, had a moment where I was disappointed because it wasn't Zenyatta. Then I had to pinch myself over and over because while there still hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in my lifetime I also never thought there would be a year when I could say that the two top contenders for HotY would be female. Zenyatta was named best older female horse and Summer Bird was best three year old male.

So, that was pretty sweet in and of itself, BUT THEN IT GOT BETTER. As you know, I recently went to Santa Anita to see the great and undefeated Zenyatta in a farewell parade. Where she obligingly showed off for the fans while on low dose tranqs because she thinks going out onto the track is serious business and they didn't want her getting too excited. They frequently have to tranq her when taking her out because she wants to run. Not at all fitting for a mare who is supposed to go and get knocked up any day. Her owners, being the horse fans that they are, and her trainer being clearly in love with this mare UNRETIRED HER. That's right. Look out 2010 Zenyatta is coming at you!

Plus now both Zenyatta's people and Rachel's people WANT to see them run together. This is like a dream. No wait, when it actually happens then it will be a dream. It will be huge. It is a race I want to have happen so badly. Various tracks are already putting up huge amounts of money if they can lure them both to the track for the same race. Oh, how I hope this will happen.

Now, I apologize for all the random caps locks, but this is really a big thing for me as I've been a horse racing fan for years and I am sick and I mean sick of seeing females discounted. When they discuss a horses breeding it's immediate sire, damn and damn's sire. that's 2 males and 1 female for every horse. Clearly, breeding only comes from the Sire. I was at the Irish National Stud and they said it's just because the guys run more. harumph. I can tell you years from now when Zenyatta actually does retire I will want to know when one of her foals and heck even grandfoals steps out onto that track. So I am looking forward to this next year of horse racing.

In the disturbing news for Friday I was awoken this morning, but the sound of the willow trees outside my apartment being killed. The 2 big willow trees that screened our apartment from the building across from it and keep us cool in summer were brutally annihilated today. I want to charge my complex for the difference in my electric bill this summer as I will now have to air condition more. Those trees were a big part of why I liked this place so much as they offered some much need privacy. In slightly ironic news: today we got new upstairs neighbors who chose their unit out of all the empty units in our complex because of the nice privacy proving willow trees. I'm sure they're thrilled.

I also was forced to flee to Border's to avoid the sounds of the willow tree death going on outside my door. I read trashy romance novels as I am sometimes prone to doing (I will never buy them, and sometimes they make me laugh) and apparently if you read romance novels in a book store it leads to middle aged men hitting on you. And you have to be very blunt for me to get that you might be hitting on me. It made me profoundly uncomfortable. So since the guy would not take the hint and leave me to read my paranormal romance in peace I fled. To all single guys out there: do not try and hook up with girls reading in bookstores. DO NOT. I hate that I'm timid, aka raised well. Because while I really wanted to tell him to get the hell away from me, I went for coldly polite instead. Because I was raised to not be a bitch. But don't get me wrong readers, he was not inappropriate. I would not have stood for that, but if you know me I just don't do well around guys in general.

And I just realized I now have to go to Target and get shampoo for my husband. Because I forgot earlier. *sighs*

Also dear readers, rec me books. preferable paperback-but really I'll take anything.
Has anyone read the Dexter books? I love the show, and I read the opening chapter of the first one, but it was so much like the show...is it worth a purchase anyway?

ETA: I should read previous entries and get my timelines straight. I posted about Zenyatta before this. However, I'm not going to delete my glee, because Zenyatta coming back is that huge.
I was cheering for Bird to go go go, but the wrong Bird listened. Mine that Bird came in a struggling third and Summer Bird came in a dazzling first. Oh what a race though. With Dunkirk they really battled it out for the lead. I can tell you though that Birdstone (sire to both of them) is going to have his stud fee increase. His babies are doing some good running. Birdstone was also an upset in the Belmont. This pretty much wraps up horse racing for awhile. I'm going to try and catch some of the later summer races like the Haskell and the Travers, but we'll see. My track record with those races is not so good.

Moving is not going so well. So I'm not going to talk about it.

I recently was at Barnes and Nobles and decided to read though and catch up on the Anita Blake Series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I would recommend the first six. And then I would recommend that you drop the book series like a hot potato and never cast eyes on them again. You will no longer recognize the main character. Anita, whom you might previously have thought to have morals and at the very least standards drops those faster then the aforementioned hot potato and picks up more guys then I have fingers to sleep with. At once. I think even porn stars would blush at how many people she's sleeping with. And the books become pages of badly written porn. I read better fanfiction. Anyway, I've stopped buying the books a long time ago and even sold the ones I did have to half price. Still, reading these books now is like a train wreck you just have to wonder who's pants will fall off next. I mean the number of guys she's "accidentally" had sex with is just...yeah. To get to the point, I skimmed through some of the most recent books last weekend, and on Tuesday the new book Skin Trade came out. Now Skin Trade had a character that I had missed (one who hasn't been sexed up) and so I decided to read it. It was almost like the old Anita.

1. more then 20 pages without sex
2. only one big magically orgy at the end (which involved a 16 year old and all I can say is ewwwwwwwwww. I couldn't read it. Just way to much squick. Supposedly we're supposed to feel better because she didn't do it on purpose. Yes, that makes underage sex so much better. No consent because of magic)
2. She didn't sleep with Tedward! Wonder how long that's going to last.
3. Creepy Olaf was creepy. and also didn't get to have sex with her

I don't know. It wasn't great, but for once in recent history it wasn't badly written porn. Huh.Still not buying any of them.

I don't know if this is the best idea I've ever had, but I think it's one of the better one's. I don't really need to know html to do this so I'm able to update this on a fairly regular basis, I hope. Maybe not in July and August, but eventually.

I just finished reading the new Harry Potter book, that was very very good. I can't wait for the next one. I spent my day reading, and it made me very happy. I don't get to do that very much, and usually not with such good books.

For those of you wondering the url is the same as my username. Hisui ryoshi is Jade Huntress in Japanese. I'm going to be an exchange student next year in Japan I leave in August. I hope to be able to update this while I'm gone as a way of keeping in touch.

Well, I know this isn't very interesting, but I assure you the way my mind works soon I will be in full rant mode and it will scare you. That's what makes it fun!!
