Okay so they're all under a spoiler cut tag because most Americans haven't seen it yet. They're probably already spoiled because if you blink at the TW fandom right now you'd know exactly what happened. However, I'll respect people's right to try and protect themselves from spoilers.
So to start off, I'm devastated.CoE was brutally harsh full of uncomfortable moments where you really see the dark side of humanity, the TW team, and other life forms. And yes, for those of you who are wondering-my favorite character did DIE. Permanently from the looks of it. RIP Ianto Jones maker of most excellent coffee, witty quips, and the best Jack eye roll. I will miss you so much.
Fandom was suspicious in regards to Ianto's ultimate demise. RTD seems to enjoy Joss'ing more then Joss. I even picked Myfawnny as my new favorite character on Day One. Let me tell you how that ended: DEAD. I swear.
Anyway, back to CoE. Other then destroying any semblance of the TW I knew and loved it was a really good story that was really well done. The pacing was excellent and kept you on the edge of your seat especially days one and two which really grabbed you and flung you in with TW trying to survive and battle an alien threat when the government decided TW was a liability.
I liked Lois as a character a lot. She was competent, concerned for the greater good, and not annoying like Gwen (but more on Gwen later). I especially liked how has things went on a spine was coaxed out of her. It was excellent. Especially her scene in day four where she stood up to everyone on behalf of TW. HA! Take that you evil government. However, given the death of my OTP and my favorite character in one fell swoop, it's clear who Lois is going to replace. And so my love for her diminishes.
Gwen was actually not annoying for this season. Well, maybe right at the very end. Maybe. She was super Gwen. With Rhys her handy sidekick. And the occasional appearance of PC Andy. She clearly still cares a great deal and is the softer side of TW, but given what they did to Jack and continue to do to him I don't think Jack CAN ever be the softer side of TW. It was nice to see her not pinning after Jack and really being involved with Rhys. It makes me dislike her a lot less. However, I wish she hadn't spat out that crap at the end about Jack staying for her. Given how TW is going Gwen you're next on the list. I don't think Jack can watch everybody die.
Jack. Oh god, he's got to be so broken. What Grey didn't finish off believe me the 456 situation did. He got blown up, he had to reanimate from a head, an arm, and some other random body parts and they made sure we knew it HURT. Then he got cemented. And ForkLift!Ianto got to save him (it was nice), and then he had Ianto die in his arms, and then he had to kill his grandson in front of his daughter. Oh yes, RTD loves Jack. Given all that happened I totally do see him running away at the end. How could you stay after all that?
We'll have to see how Doctor Who goes though. I don't want Ten to wave sonic implement and just wipe away this emotional resonance. I want Jack to go to Ten broken and I want Ten to start treating Jack like the man he is. He's going to have to do this over and over again throughout time. For longer then the stinking Time Lord, and Jack is not the Doctor's plaything. Plus, if the Doctor wouldn't mind horribly going back in time and saving Ianto? That would be great.
So I really don't know about a season four. Because TW has lost pretty much all the characters I liked and related too. I would probably watch because the storyline might be interesting, but my emotional investment would be zero.
I might have to be done with fandom at this point. I mean really. This all my favorite characters keep dying thing is not going over well with me. What's the point? And I've reached a point where I don't really have any strong fandoms. SCC is canceled, BSG is over, Buffy is long gone, Dollhouse has potential but isn't there yet. I don't know.
I'm into Merlin at the moment simply because no mater how they tramp over the story I don't think they can kill Merlin or Arthur and I like them both. So there.
Real life update to come soon. Possibly when real life doesn't make me want to curl into a ball and cry hysterically for several hours. Yes, it is that bad right now.
